Don't waste your time and money buying the Fel-Pro four piece set. The rear seal has enough slack to stick your arm through and won't stay in place to install it correctly. Buy the single piece to the later 6s. 😉
Were you doing this with motor in the truck or out?
I did not know of the 1 piece when I replaced mine but my motor was out of the truck on a stand and had no issues and dose not leak going on 3 years now.
But have heard the 1 piece is the way to go.

When I did mine (many years ago now) the one I bought was a one piece seal and it came with these little plastic pins. The pins were pushed into the bolt holes in the pan from the bottom, the gasket then placed and pushed down on to the top of the pins to hold the gasket in place while it was put into position and other bolts started. Once you were sure everything you'd started was good you pulled those pins back out and installed bolts in those holes and finished tightening up the bolts.
Engine in and jacked up a bit.
Worked like a charm. No leaks afterwards.
Don't remember the brand but the pin idea worked great.
I would always recommend the later year 1 piece.
Just be sure to put RTV on the 4 corners where there are seams (block meets timing cover, etc).
The hardest part about doing this on an older vehicle with the engine in is that you have to modify the oil pan, so you have to get the pan completely out.
All of the raised ridges need to be ground down smooth.
It sounds like you might be referring to the Fel Pro Snap Ups. Hopefully the link below works. They work great and come with the single piece silicone gasket. I used on my 1965 F100 (240 CID) and it's been great. I've installed with the motor still in the truck and after I rebuilt. Great both ways.
Anyone have a source for a 1 piece gasket for an '85 i6 300? All I have found is 4 piece. I have been down that road and would prefer 1 piece.
Are we going with FEL-PRO OS 34601 ?

I think that's the one. I did mine a while ago and don't have the receipt but it looks right. I just went into one of the local auto part stores and told them to look up oil pan gasket for an F150 from the late eighties that had the 300 inline 6. You can see it in the package so you should be able to verify at the store.

Thanks. Unfortunately nobody has one in stock anywhere near me. Just 4 piece. Looks like Bezos will be the easiest fastest way to get one.
You need one for an 89+ 300. They don't make a 1 piece for the older ones.
And to use it you will need to modify your pan. There are raised ridges around all the bolt holes that need to be ground down flat.
Totally worth it as the one piece is vastly superior.
Just some RTV silicone on the 4 corners where the block seams are, and then the rest goes on dry.

Super. Thanks. For anyone else looking,
I have verified the FEL-PRO OS 34601 is the gasket.

get one for a 1987 and up. Have to modify the pan by grinding down the raised circles around all the bolt holes.
