Question Replace tailgate camera w OEM customer placed camera

We placed an order, just under the wire (3/30/22), for a 2022 F350 Lariat SCLB DRW 7.3 to carry our 2014 Arctic Fox 992 (AF). Given the factory production issues, we do not expect take delivery until late fall. I am patient, but, need to have it in time to go south after the first of the year. We plan to have this truck for a long time. 90% of the time and 99% of miles driven the tailgate will be off the truck and the camper will be in the bed.

Although we love our AF, I know that someday the DW will tire of climbing over me to get out of bed. So we ordered the truck with the 5th wheel prep (5WP) and the ultimate camera pro trailer backup (UCPTB) packages. We carried the AF for 4 years in a 2011 F350 XLT SCLB DRW 6.2 - without a rear camera - for over 50k miles. The new truck order also included the customer placed trailer camera kit (CPTC).

We won’t need the cable, yaw sensor etc… that comes with the UCPTB, for a tow-able rig, in the near future. So I am evaluating where, in the truck, to connect the cable for the CPTC I think my options are: 1 - use the under-bed 6 pin camera connector that the tailgate camera would normally use and 2 - use the 12 pin connector in the left rear of the bed that is part of the 5th wheel prep. Either way, I plan to fabricate an extension cable to facilitate plugging and unplugging the camera cable when loading and unloading the rig.

If I use option 1, the truck should think the CPTC is the tailgate camera. i.e.the dash display will switch to the CPTC when the truck is in reverse and I will be able to view that camera as if it was the tailgate camera, as I am driving down the road. That is how I want it to work. A potential minor issue - I do not know how the 360 view display will look with this configuration.

If I use option 2, the truck will think I have an auxiliary camera and I will need to push some buttons to chose the aux camera view when I want to back up. I will be able to choose to view that camera as I am driving down the road. I do not know how the 360 view display will look with this configuration. I don’t know if there are any issues with only using the 4 pins, from the camera, into the 12 pin port in the back of the bed.

Unless someone knows more and better than I (a certainty in this forum), I would go with option 1. What say you? I’ve obviously got time before delivery, but, need something to do while waiting. There is only so much yard work and golf to do.

Option 1 is probably what I would go for. If you don't mind me asking what was the cost of the customer placed camera?
