k y'all, put new doors on the 84, now I gotta swap out the new locks for the old ones. How are these to get out? Easy, any tools or tricks that will make my job easier?
If you open the door you and look on the backside of the lip on the door. You will find a small slot cut into the inner skin of the door, there will be a metal tab sticking out of it and it will be bent over toward the inside of the cab. Just get yourself a pair of needle nose pliers and pull the tab straight out. It should pop right out, take the inner door panel off. Reach up inside to door and find the backside of the lock assembly and push out. Once you have the lock out, there will be a linkage rod attached to the back of it. There will be a plastic clip holding the rod in place, gently pull the clip back and turn it 90 degrees. The rod should then pull straight out. Just use reverse procedure to reinstall the lock, this procedure is the exact same on both doors. Hope this helps!
You can pull that clip, then pull the lock from the outside and disconnect the operating rod through the hole. I've done it several times without removing the door panel.

I seem to recall doing it this way too, whatever works best for you.
on my 85, when I try to open the lock on the driver's side, the lock (the thing you push down to lock the door) doesn't open the whole way up (its like 3/16" to short), and the door won't open.
If you pull the door handle, it pops open fine. I am assuming something is loose/out of adjustment. What would be the first place to look at? the plastic clip on the inside lock? or is there something else?
Someone put the wrong tail piece or wrong rod on the truck...ask Steve83 what to do...he seems to have the answers to everything here....he a Professional!
