75 F250 in cab tank, last yr my fuel gauge stopped working, so I replaced it with one from LMC, but man it isn't even close. Do they need to be adjusted ? and if so does anyone have tricks to doing it, or should I pull the trigger on a new again ????, when the gauge reads almost empty and I throw like 15-20 bucks in it, it will read almost full, and yes even with today's gas prices hahahah,
I wish I knew for sure. I'm working on a similar task, and will know when I install the tank. I bought a 38 gallon tank, but currently there are no 38 gallon gallon senders available. So I bought a Bronco 33 gallon sender. It was close, but I did some tweaking. I bent the tube so it would get into the sump. Then flipped the tank to see where the float was at full lift. It's a trial and error process. Install sender, look at it through the filler neck, pull it, bend it, on & on til it's right.
The newer sending units LMC has for the 38 gallon tanks are supposed to fit and work straight out of the box. Previously, they did not make one that fit, so they sent a regular one with a piece of metal to use to extend the float arm. I know the intake needs to be seated deep down in the press out at the bottom of the tank to read completely properly. People have had to turn the float around so that is free to move up and down without hitting the intake tube. Finally, make sure you have a Ford sending unit with the right resistance. These tanks are used for many different aftermarket applications. Make sure your resistance is 73-10 Ohms. 0-90 is for GM.
i am in the process of installing a new aftermarket instrument cluster. The fuel gauge uses the GM ratings. The unit comes with a new sending unit, but mine is in great shape and working good. I bought one of these where you can program any sending unit to any gauge, so that any future swaps/changes, It won't matter which sender i have. Haven't gotten to actual install yet, but instructions seem straight forward. May be an option if you can drop you tank again and do the programing.
