We’ve downsized from a 5er to a bumper pull. The 5er had 2 - 6vdc golf cart batteries. They are coming up on replacement time. My question is replace the golf cart batteries with new golf cart batteries or go with 2 - 12vdc batteries in parallel?
Everyone will have a reason for the route they go. Space is a big decision maker.
6 volt batteries in series then parallel after 12 volts will almost always have more amp hour capacity than just 12 volt batteries in parallel, again space is the issue.
Buy two 12 volt batteries or four 6 volt batteries. Hard to say as what you are doing and your space available not to mention the overall weight is left vague.
Consider the core charge as well. Most places will only take the same voltage (6v or 12v) battery in as a core charge, if that is applicable to your purchase.
We did just as Jimmy said above for our 5th wheel. We went with four Trojan T-105 6v batteries. They have been a good match to our 400w of solar panels and Victron controller when boondocking or traveling cross country. If you are looking for a better and long term solution and have the budget, look into SOK lithium or a lithium rack battery (RV certified and warrantied) in a 400AH configuration by EG4.
Alternatively, you can build your own lithium batteries with individual cells and a BMS.
So many ways to go with this that will produce similar outcomes or dramatically different outcomes based on your end goal and use of the battery bank.
