Adding TPSM devices for towables.

Have a 2017 F250 & it comes with TPSM for the 4 truck tires. In the menu it lists Trailer TPSM.
I have several towable trailers. Can I add/purchase the TPSM sensors for my trailers?
If yes are OEM parts all that are available and does anyone know the part numbers?
Thanks

It was cheaper to go this route when I did it in 2020 vs adding the oem stuff and you get temp readings also.

If you decide to go with an aftermarket or stand alone kit, be very careful about what you select. Ideally you want "real time" and/or "instant updates" instead of something that checks every few minutes or you need to scroll through the sensors to see what they are reading.

I liked the TPMS in the link below, but have not pulled the trigger on it yet as life is expensive and only getting more expensive these days.

You can purchase the OEM stuff for the trailers but you would need a wire harness for each trailer as the harness has the receiver for the trailer TPMS. Also, if your truck doesn't already have it, your plug in the bumper would have to be changed to the 7round/12round (i think its 12). The smaller round is for the TPMS/camera harness. Another note; if you trailer wheels are the large hole valve stems, you would need to buy larger valve stems as the Ford sensors are the small diameter. It might just be cheaper to buy an aftermarket system to cover the trailers. Look here https://nicholsmanufacturingandweldingservices.com for what I am talking about. Hope this helps. I will say, having the pressure show up in the dash sure is great.

I have used the TST system for about 10 years (very similar to this one) and many thousands of miles, it has paid for it's self in warnings of deflating tires, ie. cracked valve stem, was able to fix it before the tire ran flat and ruined it, it has saved several tires for me.

That looks identical to the system I have here in the UK, probably just a rebrand for different markets? I've been using it for several years on my trucks & trailers, when I got the Fontaine truck I went with the internal sensors rather than the ones that screw onto the valve as the only complaint I have is having to remove the sensors to add air then getting them to seal after a couple of years use. Otherwise they are great with instant warnings if anything goes outside the parameters you have set or in the event of rapid deflation.

I also have a 22 F350 on order and selected the Customer Placed Trailer Camera w/out Trailer TPMS as well as the 5th wheel prep pkg. Rethinking that decision now. Would I be able to add the OEM Trailer TPMS after the fact? Is it a matter of getting a difference OEM wire harness that does both the Trailer Camera and Trailer TPMS? I beleive the 5th wheel prep will add 7/12 pin connections in the driver side bed and near the rear bumper. Reason I didn't order the OEM Trailer TPMS is I don't have a trailer/RV, but I do tow a large boat and I was unsure whether or not the TPMS sensors are used on boat trailers (e.g submersible in water).

The OEM sensors are installed in the wheels, so they would be immune to being dunked in water. I don't know what it would take to upgrade the OEM system to add TPMS.

Thank you HRTKD. Feel kinda stupid now for asking the question. I should have realized the TPMS sensors are in the tire. 😀

There are a lot of aftermarket TPMS systems that are not inside the tire. So it was a legitimate question.

Ok. So the trailer harness for what you ordered will have at least 1 plug for the camera. Unless someone else can confirm otherwise, you should have 2 more; 1 for the YAW sensor (backup trailer assist) and 1 for the TPMS modlue. So if the harness has 3 plugs, at least 1 will be for the TPMS module. You then just need to purchase the module and TPMS sensors.

Thank you for the info Hernrick. I did also order the trailer back up assist, in addition to the customer placed trailer camera, so hopefully the cable will include the additional connectors when its delivered. Like many others, I waiting on my order to be built.

I ran the ford tpms set up on my genesis but opted for the Lippert Tire Linc on my new Momentum 5th wheel. Less of a headache, no wiring and gives me tire temps too. So far much better & convenient over the ford system.

I recently hooked up the Ford factory TPMS on my fifth wheel and it includes tire temperatures in the readout.

Ford TPMS Temperature Data

Thanks for posting that info Lee. I've been on the fence about installing my Ford TPMS system because the one that came with my fiver gives temperatures and pressure. I don't really want another screen though, so hopefully that temperature data shows up on mine as well.

Can anyone else verify the Ford sensors provide temperature data?
