79 tire size?

I was wondering what the biggest size tires I can get for my 79 f150-it's a full time 4wd, and doesn't have a lift on it...anyone know?

My cousin just bought my '79 150 custom and put 33's on it. It only rubs on one side on the leaf spring when the wheel is turned all the way. I think the stop is missing on that side though.

Wheel spacers and offset wheels will offset load your wheel bearings and reduce their load rating and life. This can lead to the loss of a wheel at high speed on the highway which will really ruin your day...

I have no idea what a highboy is, so I don't think so.

You have front leafs on an F150?.

You can fit 31's on pretty easily, they look good, and most of the gear ratios on 4x4's are decent for 31" tires. 33" tires are almost ugly on these and they aren't very efficient unless you have 4.11 gears.

I agree with Mattsbox- 31s are much better than 33s on these trucks with stock height.
A high boy has factory lift.....so you'd be able to run 35s with no mods other than gearing.

I run 33-12.50 A/T's on my 78 F150 mounted on 10" rims. I don't have and rubbing problems. But like stated above Lots of these trucks came Factory with 3.50:1 gear ratio's Which will drop the pull of your truck and need 4low to really sling the tires clean. But works ok for every day driving and light offroad use. Where my truck has 4.10's and a 4spd and I have no trouble turning my 33's.

I have the same question..."How about a 2WD"? What is the metric conversion for a 8.0X16.5 and a 9.75x 16.5? Is the 8.0 and 9.75 the width? What is the height? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

if it is a 79 f-150 it is not a "highboy", and highboys did not have a factory lift, highboy is just a nickname for f-250 4x4's before 77.5...because they sat high and you could run 35's stock
on every other 73-79 4x4, you can run 33's stock

and as for him having leaves on the front of his f-150, the only 73-79 f-150s that came with leaves were the 4x4 supercabs...and i dont think they started those till.....74???

Tires differ, depending on the brand... My old cheapo 33's used to rub when turning sharp corners. My new BFGs have no rub at all.

BTW, I'm running stock, no lift... however, I agree that 4.10 gears are necessary with 33's. I'm getting ready to swith, my new TrueTracs just came in today!

I ran 32x11.5's on some 15x8 steel wheels for about 6 months on my '79 1/2ton SWB 2wd. Had no problems with rubbing. Braking sucked though, It took alot more effort to get those things to stop rotating.

Extended cabs come with leaf springs in the front because of the extra weight.
