51- Vs 53 tailgate sizes
I have a 51 Mercury pickup. I am putting on a new box. I have access to a 53 tailgate. Can anyone tell me if the 53 tailgate will fit a 51 box. I am thinking box size never changed. Just some side trim that moved from box to fender...

Pretty sure they will because guys use to swap the FORD tailgates out for the older script tailgates.

When I got my truck back in 95, it had the later tail gate on it. Fit and worked fine. I switched back to the script style.
