Where can I get a set of keys for my 2000 Ranger that don't have the electronic circuits in them? I'm trying to find a way to store the keys on my body while I go running and those electronic keys are just too big for portability - plus there is the risk of getting the keys all sweaty and ruining whatever is inside them.
I guess the source of this question is whether or not the doors operate with the same circuitry as the ignition - or if the ignition even has circuitry in it that is activated by the keys? Is that huge black plastic blob on the keys concealing a circuit - or is that just for show?
Don't know for sure about the coding inside, but I get a "discount" from my insurance carrier for having a passive anti-theft option. Whether it works or not is yet to be determined.
Go to a key cutter and have them cut a key for you. At the minimum, you will have a key that opens your doors.
