When I ordered the vehicle, I forgot to ask the salesman what comes with it for keys. In the old days we'd get 2 door keys and 2 ignition keys. Now I believe the SDs come with an expensive electronic ignition key. Do they supply 2 of them? 2 door keys also?
2009 F250 XLT
(without Advanced Security Group Option)
The 2009 literature states that XLT has the Power Equipment Group which includes power door locks and 2 key fobs for remote entry (no mention of keys)
when i worked at a GM dealer every new car came with 2 sets of keys.. 1 set went to sales.. the other stayed in the upper managements office in the vehicle pouch awaiting final sales...
no reason to suspect Ford dont do the same..esp. with keys that require IDchip-codes..
I am not sure why, but the concept of 2 keys(different) has faded. Now most door locks and ignition cylinders are keyed alike. You will most likely receive two of those keys, but expect the doors and ignition to use the same key, particularly with the PATS keys.
When you get your keys order a couple of "SecuriLock system/ PATS" key blanks from a e-bay dealer. When they get here have them cut at wally-world or some such place. Then program them to your truck. As you have to have two keys to program a third the time to do it is right away before you lose one and have to go to the dealership for a replacement. Keys on E-bay are $12/$13 ea. and self programming is free. Going to the dealer to replace one key is $75.00 and up.
If you want to add a key....
**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**
1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.
3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.
4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.
5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.
6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5
you are correct on having 2 keys to program the next,I got 3 extra on Ebay had them cut and programed them per the owners manual also bought a couple extra remote door fobs as well.
