You are correct my friend. Just ran out and double checked. It's there.
Damn i'm getting old. I guess I just assumed they were auto on. Looked at the damn controls several times and still missed it.

I know on my 17 the mirrors only cam on when you hit the defrost button, but they worked very quickly, usually 20-30 seconds before they were clear or clearing. My only complaint about them was how the defrost shut off after 10 minutes. I'm constantly turning it back on in weather, which drives me nuts.
