Ordered 12/23/21 - F350 Platinum (priority 10) I originally had 5th wheel prep included in the order and on the advice of my sales guy, I removed it to try and speed things up. From what I've been reading here, it sounds like chip issues are the major delay drivers now, not necessarily options like 5WP, bedliner, moonroof, etc. I'd really like to have the 5WP so I don't have to spend more after the fact and can still utilize the puck system, but not at the expense of potentially never getting the truck built. Is it worth adding it back in or would y'all still go aftermarket?

I purchased a Ford puck system 5th wheel prep on eBay and plan on installing it my self. Seeing people getting built with them kind of makes me wish I didn’t remove it from my order a couple months ago. I’m scheduled to be built in a couple of weeks so will just leave be and install it myself.
I wouldn't get a truck without it already installed. Especially if you loose the 7-way plug in the bed too. I used to install gooseneck hitches in trucks and it's not the hardest job in the world, but it's going to require space and tools to do it. I'm also not in a position where I "need" to have a new truck immediately either.
No way I would want to fool with installing it myself.
I installed aftermarket rails myself and even that was a royal PITA, and that's not as involved as installing the puck system.
AFAIK, the factory puck availability is a supplier issue, and I don't understand why Ford can't get that job done elsewhere, or why after all this time the supplier hasn't solved their issues.
I thought about pulling it from my one order that got filled and I'm glad I didnt. The truck was scheduled a few weeks after deciding not to pull it and the dealer said it would cost about a grand for them to do it.
I’m the opposite. I finally removed it from my order and got scheduled the following week. That was back in January and after 6 rescheduling notifications for a total of 7 weeks, the truck got built last week.
I picked up the Ford 5th wheel prep kit for $600 incl tax and will install it myself once the truck arrives.
It would have been nice to save $100 and an afternoons work but I’m over it. This truck will be 8 months from order to delivery as it is.

If you still have the chance to add it back in I personally would. I have it on my 2020 with the factory 7/12 pin plug in the bed and I also ordered it on my 2022 as well. I ordered my 22 Dually on 12/6/21 and I have a build date scheduled on 5/16. I was originally scheduled for the week of 5/23 and was bumped to the week of 5/16 and got a call from the dealer saying that they just got notified the 16th is the actual scheduled day. I don’t think the delays that were creating the issues are still what they were 4/5 months ago. My 22 has every option the was on the list of delaying options (sunroof, led headlights, power steps, ultimate trailer, bed liner, fifth wheel prep, adaptive cruise, etc) and it was scheduled in 5 months. Not that it won’t be the same thing if you do it yourself but saving the money and your time is worth it at the end of the day.
I pulled the bed liner and 5er prep and the truck got pulled within two weeks. I ordered the prep online from a dealership in Ohio for a bit over $500 and around 92 bucks shipping to NY. At a local shop now getting installed and then directly to Zeibart for spray in bedliner. I have a trip to Lake Ontario this weekend so I'm hoping to have it by then to put some of the pre-tow 1000 miles on it.
Let’s not forget that the hitch prep is not installed at the factory. The truck goes off site to another business to have the bed lifted off and the hitch installed. Adding time.

I received the "built" update from the Ford tracker. Does that mean any additional offsite work has been accomplished such as the hitch prep and wheel well liners etc.?
