I have removes the weather stripping and lowered the hinges as low as possible. Still have the back of hood 3/16+ higher than the cowl. Could it be that when the springs old they don't complete their task. I would love to have suggestions and help. 1965 F350 W/ Omaha stake bed. I've had it for 11yrs. and still got 6092 miles. It's not stock in the real sense of the wourld, but I did it my way. In fact I just transferred the title today from buying it in 2011. But though it was time to insure it. Although I will probably sell it cause I don't think my back will not take a clutch.
I also have some hinge problems on my 1965 Ford F100. In my case, the hood had a hard time shutting, and there is a gap towards the cab side of the hood just like on yours.
Looking at it more closely, I found that the hinge itself was warped. Some gentle persuasion with a hammer allowed me to close the hood, but the gap remained. From looking more closely, it's still a little bit warped, so the driver's side hinge doesn't fully close properly. I've ordered some new ones which should fix the issue.
You might check to see your hinge is operating the way it should and if it's bent / warped / gummed up in any way.
Is it only one side or both? Mine was only on one side.
Thanks ZT appreciate the help. .I've is mostly the left side. I've noticed that it doesn't pop up, like I think it should.
. I think it probably weak. After setting most of it's 57 year life...
If your problem is only worn pins in the hinge you can put washers between the hinge and hood at the forward bolt and bring the back of the hood down. There is a limit to how much you can compensate for worn pivot pins, but this is the quickest and cheapest way to correct the hood setting high in the back.
There are reproduction hinges available, but mixed results with them because of poor quality chineseium parts.
Some guys have rebuilt them, but that requires a lot of machine work.
