Is there sequence or instructions for a 49 F1 hood alignment? I got new hinges & springs installed but the hood won't sit down on the cowl properly.....I have to push it down to make it fit right, thanks.
I did the 4 x 4 wood block at the nose while strapping the tail so it sits on the cowl. It's a bit too far back but closes tight. maybe a 2 x 4 would have given the proper clearance in the back. Opens the cowl vent when I open the hood.
Here is the procedure from the manual(starting 1/2 way down the page at #2). Basically you loosen the brackets inside the cowl(inside the truck) and adjust the hood downward or upward (depending on what you need, then re-tighten. Having a helper is almost going to be required. I did this on my 52 after i restored the hood springs and hinges. You need to make sure they are working smoothly (ie. Rust will cause them to not work correctly). Once they freely pivot like they should then you can do the adjustment per the instructions. On my "patina" truck i had to lube up the brackets/elongated holes/etc before attempting to do the otherwise simple adjustment. So a 10 minute adjustment ended up in me removing the hood, brackets, springs. Derusting then paint and lube, reinstall, then adjust. About 2 evenings! But hey, now i know how to do it
I'll loosen the hinges and see if I can get the hood to fit properly.
This looks to be a common problem with these old Ford F series trucks from what I'm finding out...... thanks for your input guys.
