My 90 F-250HD originally came with a limited slip. That either got gone when the PO had the rear ratio changed, or it simply does not work anymore. Tired of spinning in dirt, Looking at the Truetrac as it is a clutchless design. Anyone have one? 10.25 Sterling, SRW. This truck was originally ordered to haul a giant horse trailer and that's also why I bought it (haulling). Working out at the lot though has shown it to be nearly useless off road in it's current config. I'm also changing tires to something with more aggressive tread. Still keeping the Black Lions for long distance hauling duty though. They are super quiet and smooth.
So anyone have a Truetrac?
Here’s a good thread on the subject done by member Nothingspecial.
I do believe you can tighten the LS clutches as well, but I’ve never done it. Im sure others who have will chime in on this.
I had one in a 10.5" behind my 6.4, worked great. No more pegleg from my Traclok, it was dead after 14k. Just ordered one for my '92, the '88 has a late 90s Eaton LSD with forged gears and carbon fiber clutches.
You may just want to pop the cover and see if you have an open carrier or an LSD, then make a decision from there. I would consider popping in fresh clutches and seeing how well it works for you due to the cost differential between the pair.
It's a fair point. I have to 'undo the stupid' of the gooped RTV anyway. I suspect the shop that did the gear change just swapped the chunk with something they found in a yard. I've noticed some ham handedness on everything they touched so far as I have the receipt. This is also why I do my own work.
That rear end thread was awesome, btw. Thanks JJF20.
There's nothing inherently wrong with a Ford Traclok, aside from it being a clutch style LS. That being said, a Detroit/Eaton Truetrac is is the correct answer. Always. Worth every Penny.
I put a Truetrac in my 8.8" when I changed gearing. Haven't run a clutched limited slip, only open, auto locker, and this Truetrac. Truetrac is the best I've experienced. Don't even know it's there on the road, but off road it feels almost as good as the locker (unless a tire lifts). Would do again 100%.
