I am in the process of repainting the front bumper due to some paint flaking off. As far as I know, it is the original paint. The paint code is Z3, but the color touch up paint does not match. Has anybody else had this problem. The truck is Wedgewood blue/silver metallic according to the door sticker, but it looks like it has some beige in it. Is there another spray paint that matches closer? I am trying to find something local ( O’Reillys, AutoZone, Advance, Napa, etc.)
If you can find a different brand of paint in the same color it might be slightly different, but I doubt it. If it's really important to match, take it to a body shop and have them match it. Some shops will mix paint and put it in a special spray paint can so you can use it at home,
Many factory colors have variants to them, body shops have color chips with all these variants so they can custom mix the right color, the spray paint cans usually only mix for the most common variant. Some of the variants have extra white, some have extra red, some have extra blue, etc, etc. I remember one of Fords more common whites in the 80s/90s had something like 12 different variants, that was always fun to try and match. There was more than once we had to repaint a repair because we picked the wrong variant. Another thing that can effect the final color is primer color. If you're using a different color then the factory primer it can sometimes change the paint shade until you put enough coats on. And another thing is some colors may need moire than the 2 coats most cans say to apply. Some of the finer metallic paints like pearls, especially if it uses a clear tint in the mix, can take 4,5,6 or more coats before they look right.
I just painted the pockets on a set of 04 Lariat 18" wheels and my F350 has the same silver metallic lower 2 tone. I used the Dupli Color wheel paint I got at Advanced Auto and it matches purdy good...plus would hold up better on that bumper.
