500ci. Buildup
My problems is deciding on what heads to purchase. Im debating between Edelbrocks RPM CJ heads and Trick Flows A-460 heads. I dont know which set of heads is best for my application. All this is being placed in a 1974 2WD with a C6 Trans running to a 9 inch Ford rear end with a 4.11 ratio. Its only going to be driven on the weekends so its not an every day truck. Any sugestions you may have would be greatly appriciated. Thank you.}
Not wanting to hijack your thread but i probobly am, what do you have to do to get 500ci's? is it all in the crank and conrods? how reliable would it be if it wasn't built quite as wild as your building it?
Sorry about the questions but i'm intriuged about the possibility's.
also i can't help with the heads question as i'm just getting into bigblocks myself.
Aaron,
Its really quite easy to build up a 429/460 into a 500ci monster. Just have the block bored .30 over and then you have to buy a stroker crank with a 4.140 stroke. The crank Im going to purchase is a cast steel crank made by eagle specialty products along with there H beam rods(rods are good up 850HP and 8000RPM). Eagle makes the crank with a 2.200 chevy rod journal insted of Fords normal 2.500 so the rods with have to be chevy rods.
All these parts are very well priced. Crank runs for $278.00 and the rods are $466.00. For a bottom end(with out pistons) assembely that is capable a handleing over 850 horsepower that coast only $745 bucks, thats ecellent exspecialy for a BBF bottom end assembely.
P.S. Th find out the cubic in. of any motor follow the following formula.(8 x .7854 x bore x bore x stroke)
