Fuel Pump - 2000 F150
I was timing and keeping track of my fill ups at the station as not to run out of gas on the road.
I was due for a fueling either yesterday or today.
I was going to go to the mechanic and get this fixed any day now so I avoid overfilling with fuel because he needs it as empty as possible to be able to work on it easier.
Just as I pull out of the driveway and step on the accelerator a little bit to get up to speed with traffic, my vehicle feels like it was going to stall as I pressed on the accelerator.
this never happened before.
as I'm going up the street the vehicle is dropping rpm's to 500 (it's idle is 550) and feeling like it's going to stall out....
Next gas station is like 3 km's from my home.
The jerking and stuttering of the vehicle was getting worse.
I go to the station and the vehicle smells inside the cab.
I shut off the truck and drop 30 liters of fuel and prime the fuel pump before starting up.
The stuttering and stalling never happened again today.
Is this what a vehicle running out of fuel does ?
I never experienced running out of fuel before.
I thought running out of fuel makes the vehicle go dead on the spot.
It was getting worse within 3 km's of my home....
It was going to stall out any moment....
is my truck damaged ? or is this ok ?
I need to get to the shop to repair this mess.
What about the smell in the cab when I reached the gas station? Smelled like a light burning.
is that from air getting into the fuel injectors.
I read that depending on what kind of rpm you have going, it hints to some degree the extent of engine damage.
If you were cruising at highway speed and you ran out of fuel, you could damage the pistons.
