Dually Wheels

Hey Folks,

I'm due for tires soon, looking the replace the wheels while I'm at it. I know I'm probably in the minority here but I'm not looking for 22's or anything crazy. I'm going to stick with a 17" wheel for the truck, maybe a leveling kit and a slightly taller tire. I have the wheels narrowed down to 2. I'm thinking either the ION Alloys or the NorthStar's. I really like the American Racing Baja's AR204's but their nonexistent in the 17" with 8x200 pattern. There isn't a huge cost difference between the ION's and the NorthStar's, I was wondering if anyone had experience with either.

I was originally going to pull the trigger on the NorthStar's but couldn't find a picture of them on a truck and the holes in the wheels appear to look a little awkward to me in the pictures. Let me know what you guys think and post some pictures if you have them...I need a little inspiration and motivation. Obviously, I wish I could get a set of 17 or 18" Alcoa's, but I'm not interested in going to a 19.5 at this point.

Hope all is well with the group!

I had a dealer damage all my aluminum wheels and they bought me a set of Northstar wheels to replace them (at my request). One downside of the Northstar's, they are not, at least according to them, TPMS compatible. I don't care as I have had problems with TPMS and have had wheels replaced several times due to galvanic corrosion. I turned off TPMS with FORScan. I am capable of checking air in mine the old fashioned way. waiting for winter to end to mount the new ones.

Did you go with the factory style wheel or the wheel with the holes in them.

Have you considered going to 20's? While they are not my favorite they come in more sizes and you can get the proper offset to run bigger tires in the rear and maintain clearance. Just a thought.

Seems like a common theme, I called AR yesterday and they told me they have no ETA. The ION Alloys are as close as I could find to the Baja's.

I have,

I go back and forth on that. I really cant find a tire I like in a 20, and I dont want a super flashy wheel or a black wheel. Id like to stick with a polished wheel and something simple like an Alcoa style.

I went with a set of TIS 20”x8.25” wheels on my 2020 dually and I’ll be swapping them over to my 2022 when it gets here. I couldn’t find anything in the 17” sizes I was crazy about and wanted a slightly shorter sidewall on them for when I’m towing my 5th wheel.

NorthStars have extremely high load rating....I bought some 22.5's NorthStar rims and they are rated at 6000lbs each and they were polished on both sides.

I went with the round hole model, similar to the 450 wheels.
