I found a power steering bracket for my 1986 460 that I was looking for. Now I need All The Mounting Bolts. Any one know where I can get them? I don't know the thread type or size and type of bolts. Can any of you guys help meThanks
I doubt anybody has the bolt specs handy. You may have to do some test fitting on your own.
Not sure about the 460, but on my '84 351W, I found a mix of SAE and metric fasteners. Quite frustrating. I believe the factory was in the midst of a slow switch to all metric. Any fasteners that threaded into the block were SAE, as if they hadn't been updated yet. Any fasteners that threaded into an accessory or bracket were metric. Not 100% sure if all were like that, but it seemed to be the rule of thumb. The external pieces were easy to redesign, but the block was left alone.
The only thing consistent was all fasteners were coarse thread, whether SAE or metric.
From what I have experienced, they never changed the block threads to metric on the old design engines. I have never worked on one, but I bet one of those explorer's with the 302 v8 still had standard bolts threaded into the block.
I have run into a standard thread bolt with a metric head. That is a weird one, they are on the oil pan of my Tahoe. It's a 1999 and it has one of the last uses of the old 350. The oil pan bolts are 1/4-20 thread, but the heads are 10mm. Some of the bolts got lost so some of them are the standard 1/4-20 headed bolt which takes a 7/16 wrench.
