S&B would probably be the only aftermarket filter is look at.

Between the filter box and turbo. Every time I mount that pipe to the turbo it makes me cringe. It sits right on top of my (fairly new) main engine harness above the valve cover.

That is the one that Ed told me to get if I wanted to go aftermarket filter. The PoO of my truck
had put in some sort a crap gauze filter. I was able to find the parts for a stock install at the scrap yard.

EDIT : Idea time. You could put some large split loom over the harness where it crosses under the intake for a little added protection.

Does anyone have this issue with the stock intake? I pulled my turbo last fall and found that the stock turbo inlet tube had rubbed all the way thru the loom on the outside of the wiring harness. Fortunately had not gotten thru any wiring insulation. I added a large split loom over the top to protect it.

I like that they do ISO testing on each intake assembly and post the results, not just for the filter itself.

There’s a mile long hill back home I used to drive every day, and everyday on cruise control the truck would downshift to get up. I installed that S&B and the truck never again downshifted again going up that hill. So with my data point of 1 their filters actually work.

I also have the S&B installed, works flawlessly. I like that I can check the filter element through the acrylic cover.
However, I have installed the dry filter element. In my opinion, the oiled filter element has a higher air flow rate, but poorer filter performance.

Every 100k, I change the stock filter if it needs it or not. Twice, it hasn't. However, my high throttle time is very limited.

Is there any clearance between the pipe to the turbo and the main engine harness?

I have no problems with the wiring harness, on my truck nothing is pressed together at this point. But I have also installed a CCV reroute. This eliminates the hose from the valve cover driver side to the intake tube in front of the turbo.

I might have to put one on my wish list. I had the intake off today and noticed wear on the impeller of my four month old turbo. One of the blades has white paint on it (a wear indicator?) that is worn on the edge. I have always suspected the back plate of the stock set-up that warps on the engine side was leaking unfiltered air. Why Ford didn't put retainer clips on that side like they did on the outside is anyone's guess, but I've now had three stock intakes between my two trucks and they all warped in the same manner. Drives me crazy....along with the lack of harness clearance.

I once put screws in that lip to keep it looking tighter. You can plug both ends and pull a vacuum through the filter minder port to see if it leaks.

I fired up the old Vaio computer where I have old photos from the pictorials I used to have on Webshots, 2001-2005. No narrative from then, but my pictures.
