Drop-in Crate 390 FE
Need help help figuring out where, if anywhere, I can source a reliable FE crate motor.
I have a run down 360 that we’re assuming could be used for a core charge. My shop isn’t doesn’t have the history with an FE as I’ve been reading would be preferred. The more I research the more I want to make sure someone who knows what they’re doing builds the engine right.
Also, if anyone has HP recommendations for a 1972 F250 4x4 4sp manual would help. I’m thinking 375-400HP plus or minus should be way more than I need as a daily driver.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

For horse power level, I think it's more useful to tell your builder what rpm you want your hp to peak. For instance, if you never plan to exceed 5000 rpms, then tell your builder you'd like a hp peak around 4500. Let the amount of hp be what it will be and it will be more pleasing to drive. When done right, a 390 is easily capable of 375 hp at 5000 rpms on pump gas with good street manners.
