I'm in the process of replacing my carpet in my 70 F100, but can't get the old carpet out from behind the factory AC, and in return will also have issues getting new carpet in. Does this whole unit have to come out with the heater core, or is there a way to pull it out enough to gain access? I've released the two bolts I could find mounting it to the dash, but it moves maybe 1/2 inch.
There is a lot of stuff connected to the box. To get it to drop down you will have to remove the heater hoses, wiring, cables, intake boot, and so on. Can likely leave AC hoses connected. Good luck.
Removed my AC unit just a few days ago to install the Vintage Air replacement, so I thought I's snap a few shots of the back side. As Smoky correctly pointed out, the heater hoses, the firewall bolts, the underdash bolts and the AC hoses on top, will all prevent the unit from dropping. Add to that list the drain hose also.
