Squeaky steering wheel slip ring...
1997 F-250. No airbag, so slip ring, not clock spring.
Wheel squeaks when turning side to side. Remove slip ring from bottom of wheel and it all is silent.
Tried greasing slip ring with dielectric grease. Silent for a couple weeks, then progressively louder.
Cleaned grease mess off. Tried it dry. Quite for a couple days then started squeaking again. Better than with grease, but still there.
Thoughts? Dry graphite or something like that? New slip ring and pins? Must be something with how either the pins or ring are worn. Pins have a bit of a sharp edge, could try rounding them out a bit.

Any further thoughts on this? The replacement part F4UZ-13806-B, seems to be a different design than the original slip ring and 3 pins. But, it really doesn't make any difference as there seems to be none available.
What's the fix here? Retrofit an airbag/cruise/horn clock spring from a later year (obviously not using the airbag) with a little connector splicing?

Only things I can think of are the pins/ring are worn, like you mentioned try filing/sand paper/emery cloth the pins round again so the ring doesn’t ‘sing’. Any chance the plunger contacts are hanging up slightly - not moving in and out keeping solid contact? Graphite spray is good stuff too.
Mine (‘96) still has lots of old grease on it, I can move the plunger contacts in and out easily with a small pair needle nose.
