I noticed the other day that both of the hubs on my bronco seem loose. There is about 1/16" gap between the chrome housing and the rotor(?). this gap gets a little bigger when the hubs are locked. tried tightening the allen screws but they are already tight. is this something to be concerned about or is it normal? this truck is new to me and i'm ironing out the bugs one at a time.
I've got the same problem, but if it matters, with the Warn hubs. About the same 1/16th of an inch. Tried tightening, but still loose. You find out what it is, post back please.
Sounds to me like the spindle nut isnt tightened down far enough. Raise the wheel off the ground and see if you have any play in it top to bottom. If you do it could possibly be fixed by removing your hub assembly and tightening the spindle nuts a bit, (Check a manual for factory specs), or since you have it that far anyway, replace your bearings. They may also be the cause. Anothe thing to look for is the assymbly of the hub itself. Open it up and check all your parts. May find the prob without getting expensive.
I think the large C-ring that holds the lock body in the hub has come out of its groove. Look through the other pictures in the Brakes & Hubs photo album in my signature link. Yours don't look exactly like this, but the C-ring is the same.

what do you think is the likelyhood that both sides would have come out and do you think anything will get trashed if i din't get on it right away?
If you hit something with one hub, it's possible the other hub hit something, too. But it would only take a couple of seconds to check - just pull the cap screws and look inside. If the C-ring falls out when you pull the cap off, than you've found the problem. If it's still in place, I'd guess the screws are too long.
