So I have a 1982 Ford f 350 with a dump box well one day I wasn't paying attention and hooked up the cables wrong because there was 2 black cables well the. It procced to s.oke and melt the wire running from my starter silonode to to the alternater and then fried a already badsicly dead batter and the starter silonod so I changed the batter and the starter silonod but not the wire yet the wire to the alternate is disconnected from the starter silond I was told I should still get power well even with jumper cables iv got no power and have no idea were to go next with it
Down along that alternator wire to the solenoid you will find wires spliced in. These go to power the rest of the truck.
So you need to check the wire that hooked to the solenoid, there was a fusible link in this wire that might be burnt out. It's a large rubber looking thing in the wire very close to where it hooked to the solenoid. Pull on it, if it stretches it's burnt in two.
