I've had my starter in my truck for about 6 months... We just had a snow storm here and the truck has done well...
Well today I am leaving work and the truck won't start. I go through a normal checking of the battery, starter relay, etc. I finally came to the conclusion that it was the starter (which didn't make any sense since it was new).
Well I got underneath the truck and used a screwdriver to connect the contact points on the starter and the truck fired right up.
I have since started it a few times with no problems.
sad but true, just because something is new don`t mean its good I had a starter 2 months and it went bad. See if you can take it back, mine had a 1 year warranty so they gave me a new one. good luck
Climb under your truck and look at your starter. Take a wire brush and some WD-40 with you. When you look at your starter you will see the big battery cable which is your main power source to crank it, and you will see this little 18 gauge wire with a plastic connector. The wire is brown if memory serves.
Disconnect the small wire and clean the contacts thoroughly with the wire brush, then squirt some WD-40 on the contacts.
That should solve your problem. Important wire, no protection from the elements. Crappy design. Happens all the time.
