6 by 8 I do have new coolant in. I figured that I would have to drain the thing down a bit since the hose hook ups are lower than whats in the radiator. The Fumoto drain plugs are nice. I use them on the pan since I sale them. Thank you for getting back to me.

Note the absence of this in the diagrams.
But parts books do show it. It isn't needed, but it just stops circulation through the heater core, which is why if overheating, old timers turned the heater on to open the valve. If the heater core is in circulation, then that air your AC is cooling for your comfort is gonna be warmer coming out of the dash vents.

I agree with you, and your earlier comments.

My initial point was that the diagram didn't show a valve, a valve like you mentioned, and I've found that diagrams which lack detail, can cause headaches and time wasting.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more.

I love the fact that they make oil and coolant changes simple and quick.

I don't think the flow direction makes any measurable difference in the heater operation. However, it does matter to the water control valve. If it doesn't flow the right direction it's possible to inhibit the valves ability to open. They usually have an arrow for this.
