Over drive light blinking

Over drive light started blinking today when I started towing a small load, truck shifted perfectly, fluid was normal, any reason for it to start blinking randomly?

Yes, there is a reason. Something is wrong with the transmission system. If you'd like to find out what's wrong, read the codes. You can get Forscan at www.forscan.org, or take it to a good independent shop, or a Ford dealer. The auto parts stores that read codes free CANNOT read the codes that flash the OD light.

Awhile back I had this same OD light blinking and used Marks recommendation for FORScan. Got my code P1728, then took it to a highly rated transmission shop near by. They wanted to do a full rebuild. Previous owner had the tranny rebuilt 2 years prior. I didn’t have the funds at the time so I came back on this forum and talked to Mark with more detailed info on symptoms I was experiencing. I reset the code. The one symptom that caught my attention was while I was cruising in OD around 60mph up a hill, after I reset the code, I felt a light thump, then OD light started blinking again. Mark advised my that it seemed like the TC. I saved up for one and kept resetting this code as it caused limp mode. It was progressively getting worse as the time between resetting the code to it coming back on starting happening frequently. So I pulled out the tranny and replaced the TC, installed a John Wood VB. Over a year and half later it’s been going good! Problem fixed! Thanks Mark.

Okay so haven’t been able to get to a shop due to them being closed over the weekend, but I did get obd2 to usb come in the mail today, I’ve been driving the truck as it’s my only transportation right night while dads is in the shop. And of course with my luck the light is no longer blinking. Will the code be stored? And if so can I read that with forscan? Thanks in advance guys!

Yes, and yes. The code will stay in memory for about a month, or until you manually clear it.
