74 truck sat for a long time and apparently all fluid has leaked out. Will not move in drive. Would it need a rebuild or perhaps just new seals and gaskets. What would be the approx cost involved in each.
Are you 100% sure you got the correct amount of fluid back in it? Did you try to drive it with the trans empty? If it sat long enough that all the fluid leaked out then yea it needs all new seals. If you tried to drive it with the trans empty, then yea you probably need it rebuilt.
The cost will probably depend on if you take the complete truck to a trans shop and they pull, rebuild and reinstall. Or it you pull it and take it to them and you put it back in. Careful because I bet one of those situations will dictate a different warranty. They pull and do ='s better warranty than if you pull it and drop it off and put back in yourself, maybe no warranty.
I bet 1K and higher for sure, maybe $1500 to $1800 to have them pull and rebuild and reinstall.
If you don't know the rig or it's history you need to check everything starting with the linkage. make sure it's shifting into gear. and then be sure you have enough fluid in it before you give up on it.
You can replace the seals and gaskets yourself if that's all it needs. but if everything is there and it won't move it's rebuild time at a good shop. and maybe that's why it's been sitting for years.
