I have 96 4.9 I ordered a new egr it bolts up fine and lines up with the nut on the burner tube but the nut won't thread on. I thought it was manufacturing defect so I got a different one from Napa but same problem. The one on the truck is original and it looks like the threads are near wore off. Is there some way to re tap the nut or something? If anyone can help me with this it would be great.

On my 460, Dorman made a replacement tube. Maybe check that. If I remember right it was pretty cheap, and came pre bent for my motor.
The EGR tube for your truck is a one year only item since it has the sample tubes for DPFE EGR feedback versus the older positional based feedback signal. Finding one is going to be tough along with a wallet biopsy price.

Fair enough. If the old EGR threads are whacked and the EGR tube nut is also compromised your options are pretty thin. Anything you try to do to the nut threads is probably going to make the situation worse. Also replace the silicone hoses that go between the EGR tube sample tubes and DPFE sensor. Those lines are probably shot too.
Could I try to grind the threads down on the new egr? I found a few tubes. But it shows different types. Can I just get the cheapest one? And will it work. I put in all the right info .
Do you really want to effe up a perfectly good EGR by purposely grinding on it? Your choice.
The EGR tube for your 1996 is a one year only item. Any online listing for it had better have a picture because the 1995 and earlier version does not have the sample tubes for the DPFE sensor. If the listing shows multiple year applications move on, they are wrong. The tube you need is for a 1996 model year only.
There was pictures of them but the cheaper ones don't have those smaller tubes like the one in the picture you have. I'm not a mechanic by any means. So can I get a tube that doesn't have those smaller tubes on it?
I just went out and looked at the tube it goes straight across the back of the top of the motor from the egr then bends down and goes through the first gap were the manifold bolts I didn't see those smaller tubes but I can't see the bottom part of the tube.
If you really do have a 1996 model year truck it will use an EGR tube with the sample ports. Two silicone hoses attach to those ports then connect to a DPFE (EGR flow) sensor on the other end. The EGR valve will only have a single vacuum port. The EGR line for this setup is supposed to be Ford number# F5TZ9D477E. That is the photo I posted earlier.
If your truck is actually a Federal emission 1995 model year the EGR tube has no sample tubes. The EGR valve will have the same single vacuum port but there will also be an EGR Valve Position (EVP) sensor attached to the top. This sensor is electrically connected to the computer PCM). The EGR tube Ford number# is supposed to be F4TZ9D477C. As a disclaimer there may be a few California emission 1995 model year trucks that also use the later version DPFE EGR system.
A photo of your current original EGR valve would solve this mystery. Also snap one of the EGR valve you got at the parts store.
I don't no how to add pictures but the original ford egr valve # is F6TE-9D475-E4A. AÑD the one I got from Rock auto is WVE 4F1327 it has the original ford number in the bottom of the add. I returned the other back to Napa so I don't have the part number for it.
Ok thanks for the help. Buddy says that he can re thread the nut for me on Thursday. So I'm going to see if that works before I have to get into changing the tube. It's always the easy jobs that turn too 💩
