OK, new to Fords, and I know there has to be a special tool to slide in and release the line. Can this be done without destroying the fuel line or sending unit ends without the tool. Please advise. This is a 96 F350 if it matters. Thanks in advance
I don't know any other tricks than using the specific tool. I was able to find the tool at my local Napa at a very reasonable price.....worth every penny. I'd recommend going that route.
I have the metal scissor style and the cheapo plastic version. The plastic ones have been the most reliable for me. Use some PB Blaster on the retainer clips to loosen them up. Get some replacement retainer clips while you are at the parts store.

cant say this enough. I change the clips out whenever the lines come off. they arent the best design, and even a little dorking around with them can cause them not to lock on reinstallation. typically the harder they come off, the less likely they are to work again. As for getting them off, the proper tool is the only game in town. The cheapie plastic ones from NAPA work great, was about 14 bucks for the set. They also are used for the idiotic springlocks on the AC lines...... those are more of a PITA to get to cooperate though
