New sticks are here and I guess I need to upgrade to a modern unit.
What is this Titan Unlock business? Are there any other ways to change tunes than that little box or any smaller display units? I only really drive on 'tow' mode, use high idle, and no start.
Luckily I rip my own gears so no automatic trans shift point nor TCC lock point tuning required.
I run the Hydra chip. I gotta say its pretty handy. If you ever change things out and need to retune, or just feel like playing around with new tunes, you can easily change it with your computer, nothing gets removed from the truck. I think its the only one like that. Every thing else you gotta send in the chip or have a way to write to the chip directly.
Sounds like you have one on the way already, so this reply may be a little late. But if you have questions you can PM me. I am no expert but finally got a Hydra for mine last year so have gone through this process recently.
My understanding is when you buy the hydra chip, regardless of which vendor you buy from, you get access to their tunes for a stock truck. However these tunes will not make full use of injectors much larger than stock. If you buy custom tuning from any one of the various suppliers out there (Jelibuilt, 1023, Gearhead, AA, etc.) you tell them which injectors you have and they will customize the fuel and ICP rates to your injector capacity. So if you buy from one of them you would still get the Hydra chip, and still get access to their tunes for stock injectors. The Titan unlock feature is like buying custom tunes directly from PHP. I believe it would have options tailor made for specific injectors. The one big difference is PHP will not currently customize the tunes for you, whereas most of the others still will. So for example others can adjust the idle a bit, or dial a tune back a bit to control smoke. Whereas with the Titan option you get what you get, no revisions.
Like I said, not an expert but you're welcome to send questions my way. Hope this helps a little.
What are the new injectors? Apologies as I have not followed along if they were detailed in another post.
If the old ones were single shot, and the new ones are mild 160's (meaning nozzles like 0 to maybe 30), I can echo other's experiences where a new tune is not an absolute necessity right out of the gate. Put another way, the truck will run fine if going from AA's to AC's (without larger nozzles). Point is, rather than stress before launching on the road trip, you can install now and mess with tuning later. Might need to pay attention to EGT's when towing without a tune, but this is just a personal guess.
If the new injectors are something like 180's, hybrid, or split shot (replacing single shot), then disregard and continue with the Hydra setup
Do not recall seeing reports of whether a tune is necessary when swapping out AB's to similar but larger (ie: AD's), so no help here.
I suspect yes it would start and run. Interesting post from Jim in this thread on this topic...what various injector sizes would do on stock tuning. See his post # 1203 here:
Ah, yes. Exactly what I was thinking and spoke with Khan about this. The PCM commands X time of injector open for Y amount of volume, so you would simply need to know its output stock for the time open to roughly calculate from there on up. Explains why 160cc injectors run on stock tune, they only do about 15cc more at idle.
Pretty neat to see my new 205/30s on stock tuning will flow around 88cc, right up my alley...think of them as 90/30s then.
