Are you suggesting to make it somebody else’s money pit?

As so many say "don't fix something that ain't broke..........."----you should adopt or follow that advice.

Since its already running okay you can either replace the engine outright with a reman'd unit or simply drive this van as is until it gives up all on its own. If its not a vital part of a business or service fleet where it running is important then there's no wisdom in proceeding with your idea to replace the oil pump, timing chains etc.

By punt I mean simply get out of it
If you sell it to a person and not the scrap yard... Then it will be someone else's money pit
Apparently you are worried about it and I would be too
I would not even sell the smooth running engine for any more than a core is worth
That way you can tell them 5 minutes or 5 miles an hour is the warranty and feel good about it

If you are in love with the truck rebuild the whole thing
Just prepare for the worst and keep a wallet with money in it and maybe get AAA auto towing
I do the same thing when I drive my 94 van to the coast tooling all around
Keep or have access to money and have a plan B
I doubt it is running with factory chains and tensioners at 580k miles (blessed by a rabbi it is possible)

Obviously 500K miles, if it's all OE, there's no telling what the next failure may be, but if you plan on keeping it then I guess if it were me, 1st thing I'd do if a compression test. If compression is good, it might be worth but then you have to think about all the other components or even the transmission.

I really do like the van it’s motor and trans I’m sure are hurting it has a decent power band and shifts smooth for the most part. I did tow a trailer with 13k lbs on it a couple of weeks ago. So it makes money, but man is she a gold digger. I swear on my mothers grave those are the oe Chains ect, the PO was my uncle (my dads brother) who is in the flooring business he bought the van from diffuse ford with one PO beforehand. No major overhaul had been preformed at that time nor was ever preform. Aside from 1 set of spark plugs and on rare occasions a trans flush. That’s it…..

It would be worth the tear down and inspection cost (about 400) just to see if the OEM parts will go 580k miles
I can get a chains, tensioners and guides kit all ford parts quite cheap as a kit online (ebay) 450 or so
Add to that 8 Motorcraft spark plugs and 8 Motorcraft coils. Wrap it up for about 700 in parts + labor
I charge about 1900 total

I can do everything myself the full timing job. But I’m running into to many @while I’m in there things. Like lifters roller rockers/follower and at that point I might as well pull the heads and lap the valves and re seal everything, you see where I’m going with this

If you have the time why don't you just pull the engine and trans, tear them down and go through them, freshen everything up and you'll be good for another couple of hundred thousand.

The reason it hasn’t been done yet is that I’m using the van as my daily driver for the time being. More than likely Ill just drive it till the engine or trans goes. Then just go ahead and replace them both. That’s a lot of revolutions on those parts. I’d like to keep it alive and see just how far she’ll go before I feel that it has done enough
