I am replacing the heads and cam on my 94 5.0. Along the lines of since I am already in there, should I replace the knock sensor? It worked fine before I removed the engine. I just have no idea how long these things last.
I mean, no, not unless the ECM knows what to do with it.
My recent discovery of a 1995 6cylinder computer has the exact same hardware as my 1994 8cyl computer, but the 6cyl has the additional knock hardware present.
They are basically 2 bank batch fire systems, same hardware for controlling trans as well.
I plan on hooking up the knock sensor, but before I do, I would like to know why it wasn't there to begin with.

*That* I have no idea. You'd really have to ask a Ford Engineer. I can't imagine that the 5.8 and 7.5 are particularly less prone to knocking than the 4.9 or 5.0 under similar conditions.
Maybe they are, but especially for the 5.0 vs the 5.8 that really doesn't make much sense, the engines in a given OBS model year, once everything went EFI are negligible, aside from the obvious mechanical bits and the displacement difference.
