Thanks, might explain why parts lookup isn't accurate. PO said engine rebuilt, and it's definitely an 8 cylinder. I should look on forum first, but what is best way to determine year and type of engine? It has 5 bolt valve covers and a dual thermostat setup.
F70= '73/79 F700-gas
B= 73/79 300 6cyl HD
V= Kentucky truck plant
EJ5327= 1977 numerical sequence of assembly
230= WB in inches
color: section blank indicates a special order vehicle
F701= 73/79 F700 gas
4A= black vinyl HD
8= standard cab
M= Clark 285v 5spd direct
53= 73/77 6.14:1 Rockwell H170 (I can't make out the code for front axle info.
23100 = GVW
241326= 24= Jacksonville district. 1326 = special order, not bought off the lot.
I get EJ5327 showing as a 1979 numerical series, which would make the engine code B = 370 4V.
'77 numbers are 005001 to 099999 and X80001 to Z25000.
'79 numbers are DC0001 to FK9999.
To the OP. You will do better on the medium duty truck parts of this in the Large Truck forum. ALSO how many bolts holding on your valve covers? OR take a picture of the engine and post it.
The only thing in common with the pickups is the basic cab.
F = 391 4v XD FT gas V8. ("XD" added in smog years, not sure what's different from the prior 391)
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
045696 = 1977 numerical series
As to your axle and transmission, you can find numbers cast into the transmission, or a plate on it, or both. You can find ratio number stamped into the 3rd member above the pinion. You can easily tell if it's a 2 speed. There are also numbers stamped or on a plate on the driver side of the housing.
