Back up camera for tailgate removal
The State Park I stayed in has electric and water hookups and a dump station and all that worked well and easy. With the camper on my F350 on a steep boat ramp it didn't feel like it, was surprisingly stable.
But my left foot and ankle is worn out from working on concrete toooooo long and right hip hurts. We will see what to doc says next week but there may be some time I can't enjoy it so somebody else can. I can always find another camper but may take some time. We have a fifth wheel but can't pull the boat with it also.
250-8660 2017 + Superduty 360 Camera Relocation Factory Ford Camera - M&R Electronics Inc. (mnrelectronics.com)
1. CS-FTRSK-17SDRC, $484, digital, same camera as OEM Ford SD 2017+, plug and play as the OEM rear camera. Automatically activated with the truck in reverse. Comes with the farkra connector that plugs into the same plug as the OEM, so no adapter needed. This is the Cadillac of rear cameras for 2017+ SD's.
For me, it is difficult to find a spot on the rear of my Northstar Laredo that is not too low or too off center, or have visible obstruction like my dr. side camper ladder with our Little Giant hanging on it.
2. CS-FTRSKLP-17SD-TRL, $199, analog B&W, made for use on the rear of trailers with several cable lengths available. It has a very small bezel and can be installed anywhere on the rear of truck campers, but comes with a license frame with a built in bracket on top for the camera. The license plate on our Northstar is offset way to the pass side of the rear, making a less than desirable camera location. The cable connects to that 12 pin plug on top of the spare forcing you to select the aux on your display if you want to back up with the camera on. Is the one extra step worth $200?
So, that's where I stand with a backup camera relocation.
This is my last truck camper, and I'm thinking long and hard to ascertain whether a camera relocation is worth it.

SKU #: CS-FTRSD-FM-1721-25
Pretty much plug and play and works fine with my in-dash screen so no need for any additional receiver.
Auto comes on in reverse of course But when parked or going less than maybe 10mph you can select Camera button on dash screen and you will get the view. Going faster than that it shuts-off.
I ended up fabbing up a small alum bracket and mounted it next to my entrance door on the ladder side. Works great.
Normally when we travel we carry our two E Mtn Bikes on a Thule rack and use a 40" extension with a 6 1/2" rise in it so as not to drag on the ground. Clear view of the whole show.
Thanks for the info.
Does your aftermarket camera cable plug into the factory 6 conductor fakra camera connector, or the 12 conductor plug above the spare tire?
In talking to Camera Source, your CS-FTRSD-FM-1721-25 was not even listed on their website or mentioned.
Do you have the 8", 360 degree camera screen?
I do not know if the readout window or circuits changed between 2019 and 2020. Probably not.
Another wrinkle is p.n. CS-FTRSK-17SDR, $199. which is simply the fakra cable and housing without the actual camera which you are supposed to retrieve from your tailgate for the transfer.

My truck is only the XL edition so it came with the small display in the dash which I swapped out for a Kenwood DMX907S which I think has a 7" screen which is big enough for me.
Yes I plug into the (6) pin connector that is up next to the spare tire. My existing tailgate plugs into that same one for the factory installed camera and also the (12) pin connector next to it for the tailgate lock Im guessing.
Just checked the Camera Source website and the SKU# is correct for my rig. 2019 Ford Super Duty F350. Still $199. You reference a different part # than mine.
Super Duty Plug-Play Rear Flush Mount Cam Kit. CS-FTRSD-FM-1721-25
CS ( camera source ) - FTRSD ( ford truck rear super duty ) - FM ( flush mount ) - 1721 (?) - 25 ( 25ft cable ).
The 25' cable is too long, 15' would of worked, so I just have it coiled up underneath the rear bumper of the camper and use the same small hole next to the license plate that the tailgate harness uses to feed the cable in to plug into the 6 pin connector.
Just gotta remember to unhook it when offloading the camper. I also just use the rear plug for my camper feed also and lay the cord in over the side rail after setting camper in bed so as not to pinch it and just plug in to the front of the camper, where Arctic Fox has their male plug receptacle. I didn't install a bed receptacle for the plug in as this works well.
Here's some info that I've collected:
1. Camera source has a full on relocation kit for 2017-2022 Ford Super Duty with the 360 view camera setup: $484, CS-FTRSK-17SDRC which includes the digital camera that looks to me to be a duplicate of the Ford OEM tailgate camera for the 360 view camera setup. Yeah, pricey. The cable and other parts on the kit are a plug and play with a brown Fakra connector just like the OEM. This does not work with the lower cost Ford backup camera without 360 view.
2. Camera source mini universal trailer cam CS-FTRSD-LP-TRL which includes a analog (not digital) camera basically for trailers with various length cables depending on your needs. This one plugs into the 6 or 12 pin connector above the spare tire. It can be used with your camper but has one more step in order to use. You must select Aux camera on your display screen every time you want to backup. It does not automatically come up when you put the trans in reverse and is not compatible with the 360 view camera.
3. ADC-Mobile offers the camera relocation kit for 2017-2022 Ford SD: EVI-FTRSK-FM-17SD-R for $199 for everything you need except the camera itself. If you get this you must remove the camera from your tailgate (or have it done) to complete the kit. I got on youtube to see what it took to remove the camera from the tailgate and it involved removing a handful of NBW's and brackets.
4. ADC-Mobile EVI-FTRSK-17SD-RC at $479 is the same as above but WITH the OEM digital camera. So these are the basic choices for camera relocation on a 2017-2022 Ford Super Duty (F-250; F-350; F-450; F-550 but not the cab and chassis version; only the pickup version with 360 view digital camera)
I'm going to see if I can retrieve my OEM camera from the tailgate to use with the no-camera included kit. I must decide how many backups are left in my life to spend either $200 or almost $500 for the camera kit.

The burning question is whether it’s difficult enough to just go ahead and buy the kit+camera to avoid having to spend hours messing with the tailgate.

plug and play mini cam kit with a stainless steel squared off "U" bracket for attaching anywhere you want.
It has a 4 foot cable built into the camera and a fakra connector for the other end. same as the factory connector.
I bought the optional 8 foot extension cable to give me more placement options. $275 plus tax and 8 foot cable.
The directions are very sparce: Place camera. plug into fakra connector.
My questions are: which way is up on the camera, or does it self adjust no matter what position it's in?
There is nothing on the bezel to indicate where is up.
Below find a pic.
The bracket will not tilt fully to face to the rear if seated directly on the rear wall of the camper.
Otherwise, it's pretty straight forward.
Lemee noh if you have ideas or info.
