Truck bed box

The Dee Zee brand pops up quite often but some of the reviews say the aluminum is very flimsy. I don't use my truck for construction, the box would be for some tool storage and maybe a couple of batteries and an inverter.

Any other brands to check out?

Weatherguard! I’ve had my chest box for 21 yrs in multiple trucks. I replaced the struts and had it repowder coated. No cracks or problems.

Weatherguard is expensive but they are tough. Replacable wear and tear parts and leave it in the will to the next generation.

Had a weatherguard when doing a lot of highway construction inspection. Bought 4wheeler to put in bed and ended up selling it. Mistake. That thing was awesome and no doubt would have lasted a long time. Confirmed by many others. Prior to weatherguard had a store labeled Dee Zee. It was a POS after a year or so of not heavy duty use. Now have a UWS and am happy so far. It’s definitely more solid than any other better built, dee zee, etc. If you don’t want to spend the money on WG I would seriously consider UWS. Have seen some protech and they seem solid.

For the box lid popping open, I have found that you can adjust the hook and rod closure mechanism so the lid is more secure when closed.

+1 for UWS. I've been running them for 20 plus years. The only reason ive replaced them is for truck trailer configuration changes. I went from a standard to a low profile when I bought my goseneck trailer and sold it to a friend when I downgraded to a F-150 as that truck was a flare side and the dull width box wouldn't fit.

My '92 flare side has a UWS box in it that is original to the truck and my buddy still has the low profile box I sold him 10 or 12 years ago.

When mounting boxes to the bed, did you use some sort of material to "insulate" steel from the aluminum?
My side steps came with disc insulators ...

after I drilled my four holes I painted the metal around and inside the holes with a thick anti-seize compound and my truck box came with rubber grommets that installed in the holes in the bottom of my toolbox to isolate the bolts from the metal of the toolbox and also keeps it off the truck bed

after everything was tightened down I went underneath the truck and painted the washers Nuts and Bolts with the anti seize compound in case I need to remove it

I have a Better Built/Northern Tool low profile box for 3 years mounted with no-drill clamps and it’s been great.

Another vote for UWS boxes here. I've had a couple over the course of 15 years and it's what my next one will be (someday). Cannot beat the quality for the middle price point. WG is nice but way more $$
