First, I know this has been discussed a ton of times but I just want to make sure I have the right info before I begin searching for wheels. I’ve searched this forum and reviewed the MPC but it still isn’t clear to me.
I’m looking for later year F100 16-inch wheels because I want to use the larger “outie” hubcaps (believe it’s PN C5TZ-1130-A) with the Ford logos stamped in an arc on the outer edge, as I plan to cut a hole through the middle for the front two wheels’ 4x4 hubs; I know there are 4x4 hubcap options with these later years and I also may take that path.
So I’m looking for 16x5” OEM Ford wheels, one-piece design, 5x5.5” bolt pattern, that accommodates “outie” hubcaps and supports tubeless bias-ply tires. Can someone share what years/models Fords these wheels can be found on, along with associated part numbers, that will also fit my ’66 F100 4x4? Will any part numbers be stamped on these wheels, or any other way to identify at junk yards?
I'm fairly sure these are at least close to what you are after. 16" x 5" - 5 on 5.5" pattern with outie nubs. I can't say for sure if they take the larger caps you show or the smaller size cap, but definitely an outie wheel. I've been to this guys place and it is not what most people would expect. Terry is a nice guy. Good to work with. He knows what he's got.
Not sure if the place Chad listed has more than that one wheel, or the price, but what you are looking for is likely going to be hard to find. By the time you got to outie hub caps very few trucks had 16" wheels and most of those where probably replaced with 15" in the last 50 years and the 16" wheels thrown out. What your after will likely look good if you can find it. This truck has 31x10.50r15's on it.
How much would original rust free vintage circa 1966 factory Ford 5"x16" 5-on-5.5" wheels cost, per wheel or for a set of four, these days?
New Vintique wheels run almost $100 per wheel for a 15x5 and I don't think anyone is making a narrow 16" wheel unless you have them custom made. So based on that if someone had a complete set of 16x5's I could see in the $400 range.
It varied a lot. Some have a FoMoCo, Ford or KH (Kelsey-Hayes) stamp on the outside visible surface.
You might also find some stampings on the back side of the wheel. Here's a Firestone 16 x 5.50 FRHP with a 9th of May 1966 date. This is the 16" 8-lug two-piece locking ring innie wheel.
Some only had a paper label in the valley of the wheel - where the tire obscures it. Here's a KH-43552 which is the 16" 8-lug one piece innie wheel. Many of these paper labels wouldn't have stood the test of time.
I found 16x5-K stamped on the "tire side" of the wheel. Probably more numbers under the thick paint.
I believe this wheel was used until '79 or so, but it's not common.

what you are looking for is likely going to be hard to find................ very few trucks had 16" wheels
X2! They were optional, but few ordered optional wheels. Same wheel from mid 60's to mid 70's. Don't ever recall seeing 16" 5 lug steel wheels in the late 70's and 80's.
Thanks everyone! I did check with Wheel Vintiques and they don't make 16x5 with a 5x5.5 bolt pattern in their OEM Ford style.
I know people find the earlier F100 16x5 wheels that accommodate "innie" hubcaps, and am open to considering those also, but would really like to find a set of the later 16-inch variants. My truck came with TEN 15x5 OEM Ford wheels so hopefully I can sell off some of those and make back some $$ to pay towards a set of 16" wheels. Or if I have to I'll just buy them one at a time.
I have four nice factory original 5"X16" 5-on-5.5" wheels that are very good.
They are the older 'outie' version which I acquired for my '63 unibody but don't work with my factory 'innie' hubcaps.
I will get some photo's next time I visit my storage garage and post.
I don't know if I am ready to sell them just yet.
Thank you for your updates - Pete
Doug and Pete, if you're interested in selling any/all of your wheels, please let me know cost to ship to San Diego area, zip 92064. If either of you are in the SoCal region, I'd obviously be willing to pickup.
Brent, let me check tonight what I have and I'll let you know. I'm a little south of Sacramento in Lodi, Ca. I had 5 or 6 wheels came with my truck when I got it but none were "on" the truck. They were all in the bed. The truck itself had brand new tires mounted on chrome wheels so it could be rolled when I got it. I'm not using those tires and wheels either. The old wheels all had old rotten tires on them but I had them taken off and saved the wheels in case anyone might need them. I'll let you know what I have.
Doug
