4R100 stalls engine when put in reverse while cold
Like the title says, this truck often (not always) stalls the engine when cold (first start in AM) and put in reverse.
Fresh rebuild with lots of new parts including billet triple-disc torque converter.
It has a new 6.0 transmission cooler and no radiator trans cooler (L99). Filled with Merc V fluid that still looks new.
No issues at all after warm. Shifts good and TCLU is perfect. Does have PHP tunes on Hydra chip.
Transmission shop is suggesting synthetic ATF based on TSB’s they found for this issue - but I’ve never had this problem before????

For as common as torque converter dragging or applying is on the 4R100/E4OD when put into reverse and to have a transmission rebuilder never having heard of that problem is kind of weird.
It's a low pressure issue, either from internal leakage (the initial shift from anything into reverse is oil hungry inone of these), or a torque converter issue.

Sure the filter is sealed well? Could be sucking air until fluid warms up and covers the attachment point.
Correct filter?
Like Cody said, I’ve read Mark say many times about TC going into lockup if fluid is low.
