Sputtering While on Front Tank

Hello. I have a 1996 Ford F-150, 5.0L V8, 177,000 miles with dual tanks. I just bought the truck one week ago. If I use the rear tank, everything seems to be fine. If you put the pedal to the metal, it will accellerate quickly with no sputtering. The fuel gauge seems to show an accurate reading as well. If I switch to the front tank, the engine will sputter during acceleration and slowly build speed. Also, the fuel level on the gauge seems to wander around. The check engine light is on all the time as well. Besides this, everything seems to befine with the truck.

Thank you very much for much needed help,
jasonwho

Bad pump or kinked line on/in the front tank.

might be an electrical problem too. Maybe a bad ground?

Rusted out or hole in fuel line/hose? Could be getting air in the fuel. Check around where the line is strapped to the frame. Just a thought - I have had this problem on other vehicles. I also reccomend checking electrical connections on the tank, fuel sensor, pickup. If there is rust, or a bad connection, your in tank fuel pump may not be running at full capacity. Have you pulled codes?
