96 f150 so high pressure pump in tanks. Is tyhere another on frame rail like older trucks have? The reason is the rear tank doesnt seem to pump as much fuel when I go to that tank, engines sputters and dies when going down tyhe road. I just switch back to front tank and hope we make it back to town. Been doing this for couple years, just been running front tank and trying to switch when really low on fuel. Ive been adding some fuel conditioners in rear tank also. Another part is that the rear tank seems to fill up. Example: fuel has seeped out the fill area and stained the paint. Also sometimes can here pressure in this tank after shutting off. I have not tried to hear if rear pump is running or not though.
new pumps aint that expencive and they are pretty easy to do. thats my guess to the problem. I can only run my front tank due to holes in the rear one and this was happening to me on the front tank. super doggy and no power. Does it cut out like it gets no fuel after a slight bit of throttle is used? if so it is you pump. i did a filter too just to eliminate that problem.
Next question . Ive always dropped the fuel tanks when Ive done pump or tank replacement, but others have just unbolted and slid the bed back to get to the pump from the top. My delima is Ive got a gooseneck ball in the bed of the pickup id have to unscrew. It hasnt been out for quite a while and im sure its rusted on the exposed threads so that wouyld slow me down for an hour or so. Also the regular bed bolts may be a B****. Also would neeed to unhook electric from tail lights but that would be easiest part Im sure. If I did take box off I could really clean around frame rails and tanks. Opions please.
