Working on my 88 F 350. The trouble is with the Neutral Control Switch. This appears to have been an issue for the prior owner as when I went to change out the part it was already loose. The Truck is an 1988 F 350 XLT Crew Cab Dully 2 WD automatic powered by the 7.5 L 460 EFI Gas motor with C6 three speed Tranny.
The problem is as follows, No Start when you turn the key. If I cross the starter solenoid it will start right up. I changed the Neutral Safety Switch but did not clear the problem. I have power to the switch verified with a test light. I have reverse lights as well so the switch appears to be doing its job. I can't find a wiring diagram showing the path from the Neutral Safety Switch to the Starter Solenoid. If anyone has one or can provide a simplified drawing I would be very thankful.
I also do not understand why the RPM's Change when I reconnect the wire to the starter solenoid once it is started. Is that normal? It appears to run properly when connected. I suspect a failed wire between the switch and the relay. Has anyone had this issue before? I believe this is my last hurdle with this truck before I can put it back on the road. Again Thankful for any help or suggestions.;
