I put in a factory order for a '22 F150 powerboost XLT 302A on 01/15/22. No word yet on a VIN number.
I've been talking to my dad who just took delivery on his '22 F250 Lariat. I'm slightly concerned that I have ordered something that won't be built with all of the supply shortages and plant shutdowns going on lately. Based on what he said, certain parts cause massive delays and may even push my truck down the list of next to be built. Is there any truth to this, or anything here anyone can verify?
I really don't want to change anything on my order and I'm hoping to have the truck by August. My dealer (who also happens to be my father in law) told me I should expect it around April/May.

What your father said is true, supply shortages are running roughshod over build schedule/sequence and vehicle completions and apparently not even Ford is able to predict what supplier parts will miss deliveries. I ordered my truck mid-November and had a confirmation e-mail the date my dealer submitted my order. I received my VIN number and build date email from Ford ten days later, and it went down the line the fourth week of January; but because of supply shortages, it has been sitting in one of Ford's storage lots since. I am surprised that you haven't received any notifications from Ford regarding your build, though. Back in January Ford was still scheduling builds regularly and you should have at least received confirmation of the order, unless your dealership did not enter it as a customer order and provide Ford your email address.
If you want to know the state of the industry, look up Long McArthur Ford on Youtube and scan their list of videos. They talk about scheduling and how Ford may push a particular order down the road and not even schedule it if they think they won't have parts needed to complete that build.
I wonder if your father-in-law is riding herd on your order and has some plans to surprise you with it when it shows up early...that would be really nice.
I'll check out the YouTube videos, thanks. I wonder if there's a comprehensive list of items that they can't install and when they see it on one, they just turf the build sheet?
I didn't even think about the possibility my father in law could be pulling the wool over my eyes. If he is gearing up to surprise me with it, that would be welcome
My friend owns a dealership and he recommended to me that if I really want the truck then I need to find one on a lot somewhere that wasn't pre sold. I really wanted to order a new F150 and was hoping by now the orders would be back to a 8-10 week delivery time but nothing has improved. I was going to order a XL and he still couldn't give a confident delivery time. From what I know the more tech stuff on the truck could lead to longer wait times for parts at the factory. You can have your dealer do a seach for trucks that have what you want on the truck. That's what I did and ended up finding one not to far away that had most of what I wanted. Good luck.
