Is there a bolt or two I need to loose to allow air in to prevent oil gathering in the cylinder before I pull the injector? I saw one YouTube where the guy was giving the warning, but his truck looks newer and mine doesn't have the mentioned bolts in his.
There is no way that I know of to avoid getting oil in the cylinders. You'll have to vac them out and/or turn the motor over by hand to get most of it out then spin the motor with the starter.
No 7 and 8 have small plugs that drain the HPOP rails. Start there.
As noted by Glenn, you will still have oil down into cylinders. Pull the glow plugs on all holes to zip back up via the starter and to reprime the system for a far quicker restart as there is no fighting compression.
rear plugs on heads are a pain to get off and you need a new orings or upgrade to new style plug
remove VCH
remove glow plugs
remove injector sheilds, remove injectors with pry bar and re ring
insert injectors and tourque
turn over by hand 4 revolutions with wrench on crank
crank over with key for 30 sec with VC in place with one bolt (splash sheild)
wait 5 min and crank again for 30 sec and repeat 6 times to prime the injectors (engine spins much faster to prime them with GPs out)
install GPs, VCH and fire it up and look for spurts under injectors, dont rev it or it makes a mess
