Jasper engines
I got one. I called Jasper wednesday, and the engine showed up in my garage the next day( 28 hours after I ordered it). The engine comes on a pallet with the back end bolted on. I got the install kit and everthing you need comes along. New water pump, radiator hoses, plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, gaskets etc. etc.
The block looks sweet sitting down there, it was nicely sprayed with a dark gray paint, all the threads seem to be cleaned out.
I am really stoked to get that baby into my truck.
One down side,.... I didn't like the fact that it comes on a pallet only. It has a plastic cover over it, but there is nothing to protect the rocker arms from getting bumped. It would have been nice if they shipped it in a wooden frame. There isn't much to hurt on a bare engine, except for the rockers.
I've been doing alot of looking at different companies tring to find a quality engine. Jasper is one that I'am looking at and another is ATK.. They have the same warranty except it is unlimited milage for 3 yrs, Has anyone had any experence with this company and it's product?
ATK may have an Unlimited mileage warranty, but (I don't know for sure) many other companies will only warrant a part or make excuses and not cover anything at all. For example, if it has a coolant leak they may only pay for the specific gasket that failed, not all of the gaskets neccesary to do the job. Jasper has an entire department that is there for you if you have problems and need to ask questions, do it thats why they're there.
I understand about the pallet only. However, jasper has their own shipping company, and have rarely had a problem transporting an engine. Many times it will come with all the tin ware on it.
I have six threaded holes that accept the bell housing. I couldn't get the bolts into three of them as I was trying to mount the engine on the stand. They are 7/16-14 threads and I had to clean them all with a tap to get the bolts in. I thought Jasper cleaned out all of the threads, but I guess they didn't get mine. I am going to check the rest of the tapped holes out and see if they have been cleaned up, especially the intake /exhaust manifold area. I suppose they clean the holes that have to do with reassembling the engine to head , etc. , but leave the exterior mounting holes for us to clean.
Runs great....I won't need to do this for a while! My 4.9 Inline is a puppy with 64K on it!! But if I didn't do a new motor myself, I'd do a Jasper! Over 10 years ago I worked at a garage, and they put several Jasper engines in different vehicles, and never a problem...Many other garages in the area used Jasper as well...
