Jasper engines

Not sure if this is the proper place to ask this question. If it is not then I apologize. I am in the market to buy a rebuilte engine and have been looking at the jasper engines. Has anyone purchased one of these engines and if you have, have you had any problems with the engine or their warranty? I don't want to spend $1,600 and not get a quality engine. Thanks for any input on this.

Try the search feature - located in the bar at the top of the page. Type in "Jaspar " (no quotes)......- or "Crate". I recall some past discussions about particularly poor crate engines - but I'm not sure if "Jaspar" was one of them. Keep investigating - if I recall - the concensus was that you could easily get a crate of lemons in a crate engine... I do recall SOME satified customers - just NOT MANY...

I was told at the time I built my own engine that Ford offered a 50K warranteed crate 300 - I passed in favor of putting it together myself.

No personal experience, but apparently they are the nicest ones available for the price...

I asked a Ford parts man what would an engine cost me if I bought a 4.9L from Ford. He quoted me 1850 dollars. You must put a new water pump on the engine to keep your warranty. The engine is covered for 36,000miles or 3yrs. They are rebuilt, not new. I have no clue what the reliabilty is.

It also looks like no one on this website ever bought a crate engine either, due to the lack of responsesto this thread

We use Jasper at the shop I work at and have had good luck. I also see their trucks at other shops frequently. They used to only do high performance engines and were very reputable in that market, I would assume the same thing for their remans.

The jasper engines are awesome I put a 4.97L inline 6 in mine after 385,000 miles on the first one. We used castrol oil with the first one every 3000 miles and the only problem I ever had was oil leaks at the seals starting around 350,000 miles and the price to fix was about 60% of just buying the new engine. It has more hoursepower than the orginal 4.97L that was originally in it.

I'am starting to lean more toward the Jasper engine..At there web site the 4.9L is $1,699 plus core. Found a garage to put it in for around $650 to $750. Spending this kinda of $$$$ I just want the best I can get. Do you know anything about the ATK engines? They are about $300 less just don't know how good they are. They do have the same warranty.

I am not sure about that engine manufacture. Jasper is known to be the best, in the scheme of things, $300 is nothing when you are left stranded after the warrenty. Go Jasper, save up and make the investment.

I will warn you however, almost all reman shops that I know of will void your warranty if you install any aftermarket stuff. Bolt on or whatnot. Bummer :P

Make sure of the warranty if you have a 4x4. I was told that a Jasper engine does not carry the full warranty when installed in a 4x4, that it is cut in half from a three year, 36000 mile to a 1.5-year 18000-mile warranty.
