Fuel Flow Thru The Filter
I have the Carter Style fuel with the paper element filter on 62 Thunderbird which is under restoration. For the last year I have only started the motor every couple of months and normally have to hit it with starting fluid to get it running. This week it wouldn't stay running and the year old non-ethanol gas I in it smelled like it is going bad. I pulled the fuel filter and plumbed a gravity tank to the carbs with fresh gas and it started right up and with no filter on the fuel pump I thought the it would **** fuel onto the ground (or in the drain pan under it) and there was nothing. Now I figure the 2 year old fuel pump that has less than an hour run time is bad. I've looked for a diagram for the fuel through the filter with no luck but I think the fuel is sucked from the tank and pushed through the filter rather than sucked from the tank and pulled through the filter. Anyone know for sure?
