Transfer Case question

Ok I am looking at a 1980 Bronco that is for sale. I have confirmed that it is the 351W. The ****er to the transfer case is stuck in 4 hi. The person selling it does not have a clue. If its more than a broken linkage, how much would it cost to replace the transfer case? How easy is that? How hard would it be to fix the linkage if it is that? Since it is stuck in 4 hi, would it damage anything to drive it? Also what in particular goes wrong with these things? What do I need to be concerned about most? It has alot of rust. The guy now will let it go for $400. I think I can get him to $350. It did not seem to be leaking anything, and it started right up fine. Any comments or suggestions on what I need to look at? Thanks

I bought a case for mine from a junkyard for 250.00 which is kinda high, but I needed it. Changing it is fairly easy..Ive had mine off in my driveway afew times. Sounds like a fairly good deal, altho I dont know much that can go wrong with the linkage.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I bought a junk yard t-case for 150 and it is an easy swap if you are even a little bit mechanically inclined. If you buy this Bronco you will become mechanically inclined real quick.
