So like a lot of people here I ordered a F-250 lariat end of Jan, with gooseneck prep etc. , 7.3 petrol etc. etc etc. Currently have an ‘01 dodge Cummins diesel manual 6 speed , as it’s getting a bit on the older side both my new and old mech said to get the ford 250 with the petrol engine in it.
So dealer took order end of Jan , got an email confirmation form ford a week later. My question is at what point does ford change/retool assembly lines over for nexts years model, and or is it changing at all for ‘23?
Not overly worried when it gets here, current truck is fine ‘till new one arrives just don’t want to have to rebuild again if they change things too much for next years model. The not sure if this still comes with that or something changes sort of thing on options . Am assuming as they took order they’ll build it but then again I think they’ve been idle for a week or two hence question.
Again am in no hurry at all, was planning on a may delivery at earliest to July/August time then sell my old truck of which I have a two people lined up for already.

Normally change over happens around July....my dealer has told me they have stopped taking 2022 orders and Ford is running 2022 models till end of the year and all orders this far will be built...orders for 2023 will start in October and builds will start in January....2023 will be a short model year....

I believe your dealer (like many) is wrong. Ford has not stopped taking retail customer (COVP) orders. They stopped taking orders for dealers to stock.

Ford may not have stopped. but lots of dealers have. mine stopped taking orders several months back because their order bank far exceeded their expected allocations for the rest of the year.

2022 order banks opened in march with production starting around July. We also had official press on the 2022 model by the end of Feb 2021 detailing new features and pictures. There has been nothing official about the 2023 yet.

Another mistake on their part? Custom retail orders (COVP) increment their allotment so it doesn't affect regular allocations. So if they won't process COVP orders and Ford stopped letting them submit orders for their own stock back in Dec/Jan then what new vehicles are they selling? I'm not sure Ford is doing fleet orders any more. So it sounds like they are just selling whatever Ford sends their way? Something doesn't add up here. I'll guess they get some stuff from Ford, then they are tacking on "adjusted market value" fees, and are doing just fine.
